The aim of our project "Edgar - Poe" is to create a mediabook which presents the work of Edgar Allan Poe to a young audience. The mediabook is also a starting point to help them recognize depressive symptoms and take preventive action. Our mediabook combines literature with music.
Everyone should have access to art and culture! That is why we would be so pleased if young people and teachers from Luxembourg could apply for their free copy and then pick it up or have it sent to their home. Free workbooks for schools are in preparation. The book will contain download codes for the corresponding album of the band ShadoWhisperS on Spotify, iTunes and other streaming services. This way you can combine reading with listening to the songs, free of charge.

The project
It has never been easier to support us. We appreciate every contribution. Below is an overview of our fundraising goals.
The work: Art and literature in ... depressive times?!
We at Shadows' Night asbl, are pleased to present the project, “Edgar - Poe” to you. The aim of this project is to create a mediabook intended to bring young people closer to the literary works of Edgar Allan Poe, as well as to help them recognize depressive symptoms and take preventive action. The mediabook will combine literature with music.
Why Edgar Allan Poe?
In times so deeply impacted by COVID, young people in particular have had to go without many things once integral to their lives. The restrictions on their daily lives have had a significant psychological effect on many young people. Since the subject of “depression” is still a taboo in many circles, we want to use this book to raise awareness to it and encourage affected young people to seek dialogue. Edgar Allan Poe suffered from depression all his life. It is our hope that this selectionof his work and anecdotes from his life will be helpful to young people in recognizing symptoms of depression in themselves and others. By putting yourself in the shoes of another person and their emotional world, you can see parallels to your own. You also realize that you are not alone, and that many people, including famous artists, may be dealing with the same problems. The project's song lyrics, as well as the corresponding music, reflect this. In addition, the bilingual book is intended to introduce young people to classic literature in a modern way. It would be very important to us if we could provide the young people with music and books for free.
Everyone should have access to art and culture!
We would be so pleased if young people and teachers from Luxembourg could apply for their free copy and then pick it up or have it sent to their home. Free workbooks for schools are in the works. The book will contain download codes for the corresponding album of the band ShadoWhisperS on Spotify, iTunes and other streaming services. So you can combine reading with listening to the songs, free of charge.
Where will the music on the mediabook come from?
The band ShadoWhisperS has been developing a Poe concept album over the past few years and has set the short story, “The Black Cat”, and various well-known poems by the famous writer, to music. In collaboration with Shadows' Night Asbl, a book (+/- 170 pages of content in the format 12.50 cm x 12.50 cm) with suitable illustrations and lyrics has been created. The song lyrics also included in the book, tell an exciting story and provide insights into Poe's life. In the book, Edgar, Poe's cat tells the readers how Poe's stories and poems came about. Some elements stem from Poe's biography, others are fictional, but they all revolve around Poe's works.
The book is written in both German and English. The lyrics (solely in English) have been added to the individual chapters. Young people should be encouraged to read the two languages as well as to listen to and understand the songs. In addition, the mediabook should serve to spark an interest in Edgar Allan Poe's works, and help to better understand his gloomy mood.
Workshops for young people
For several years now, the Shadows' Night Asbl has set itself the goal of introducing metal and rock music to children and young people. Free concerts and workshops for the whole family on the subject of art and music have often resulted in great projects. Our mediabook is intended to be a further step in this direction, to inspire young people for culture in a slightly different way. The connection between art and literature is particularly important to us in this project.

Help in finding professional support
However, we go further than the mere publication of music and books. The "Shadows' Night" asbl is currently in the process of planning workshops on depression prevention for young people. Ms. Danielle Jung, specialist nurse for psychiatry and nursing education in the “Lycée Technique pour Professions de Santé”, will provide information to make young people aware of the subject of “depression” and demonstrate specific ways to recognize and combat depressive symptoms. Ms. Jung is also the bassist in the band, ShadoWhisperS.
In addition to the subject of depression, free access to all forms of art is important to us. The work of an artist often gives an insight into his mental state (example: “Vincent Willem” by Van Gogh). To this end, Shadows' Night asbl is planning further workshops showing young people ways to express their feelings and thoughts in creative ways. Possible ways of art would be painting to music or creating a photo collage followed by a discussion of the work. In addition, all participants receive important basic information on the subject of depression. We want to make young people aware of the importance of listening, strengthening self-esteem, and the possibility of professional help.
